Sensory Tune Your Child’s Emotional Needs
Is your child struggling at school with noise, social interactions and possibly transitions between lessons and activities causing emotional meltdowns?
Are you feeling at a loss how to help guide your child through these challenges to make their time at school more positive and enjoyable, so they greet the day with energy and enthusiasm for the school day ahead?
Would having a solution to emotionally regulate throughout the day to focus, to listen, to interact with peers, to contribute in class, to transition with ease, help take the anxiety out of the school day for your child?
At Sensory Tuning, we understand and value that each child is unique and one style of learning does not meet all our children’s needs. Based on The Alert Program created by occupational therapists Mary Sue Williams and Sherry Shellenberger, we have developed a program that we taylor to meet your child where they are at, to teach them the skills to self-regulate emotionally to enjoy and optimise their participation and engagement in their day.

We recognise the role of the parent in fostering the child’s emotional regulation and nurture the growth of the parent-child bond through helping the parent to role model various states of regulation for the child’s understanding as to how their engine level is running. Is it fast? Is it slow and sluggish, or is it just right for the activity? Through fun, interactive and sensory safe games and activities, the parent and child work together with the coach to learn the skill of self-regulation, a skill that will last and benefit them for a lifetime, supporting them to reach their potential and live their best life.
Set in a gym fully outfitted with specialised equipment to stimulate all the senses of the body, the Sensory Tuning gym is colourful, dynamic, interactive and child-centred. Your child works safely within the comfort zone of their nervous system whilst gently encouraged and supported to safely extend their window of tolerance in the various senses to enjoy and master a broader range of sensory activities. Whilst in the just right engine level, attention is directed to the skills of communication to support your child in learning the art of expressing their needs in a calm, non-confrontational manner that seeks a resolution where they feel seen, heard and their needs met.
You and your child are coached through the process of introducing self-regulation into your family life at home and during extra-curricular activities such as sports, music, drama, dance, art class or simply visiting the library or a busy, possibly overwhelming shopping centre. Worksheets support the learning in the gym for you and your child, with follow-up coaching calls for each parent to address any issues that arise.
Picture what a difference a fully focused 2 on 1 session for your child with you who knows your child best and a coach in guided play to teach them skills in emotional regulation and solution-focused communication, could make to your child’s attention, enjoyment and performance at school, to their capacity to socialize with their peers with confidence and ease, to their experience of life in your home and the wider community, and their overall success in life.
This isn’t a dream, it’s a reality coming soon to the Wollongong area. Meanwhile, hop onto our website and join us in the members area for further information and insights on emotional regulation for you and your child.
